OMEGA-AUTOMATIC » SEAMASTER COSMIC « OMEGA, Biel / Switzerland (1971) *********************************************************************** STAINLESS STEEL, AUTOMATIC, SHOCK & WATERPROOF WRIST WATCH w.DAY & DATE This treasure I bought on my 1st vacation as an Engineer / Scientific Assistent in Zurich / Switzerland. The CHRONOMETER is full mechanical and SELF-WINDING by the movement of the forearm. The CASE is made out of a SOLID BLOCK - Maintenance access only through the glass on top. To SKIP the 31st DATE: Pull the crown and push it back - That's all ... I have worn this time piece 40 years day & night. With 3 maintenances, it was always reliable and a proof of OMEGA's quality - I love it !!! The perfect watch for a "retiree" in Berlin - But for world traveling I prefer my new CITIZEN World-Timer & SlideRule/Navigation-Computer ... H I S T O R I C A L R E M A R K S : ======================================================================= Read the complete story at: http://en.WIKIPEDIA.org/wiki/Omega_SA FOUNDATION: The forerunner of OMEGA was founded at La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland in 1848 by 23-year-old Louis Brandt, who assembled key-wound precision pocket watches from parts supplied by local craftsmen. He sold his watches from Italy to Scandinavia by way of England, his chief market. After Louis Brandt's death in 1879, his two sons Louis-Paul and Caesar, troubled by irregular deliveries of questionable quality, abandoned the unsatisfactory assembly workshop system in favour of in-house manufacturing and total production control. RELOCATION: Due to the greater supply of manpower, communications and energy in Biel/Bienne, the enterprise moved into a small factory in January 1880, then bought the entire building in December. Two years later the company moved into a converted spinning-factory in the Gurzelen area of Biel/Bienne, where its headquarters are still situated today. Their first series-produced calibres, Labrador and Gurzelen, as well as the famous Omega calibre of 1894, ensured the brand's marketing success ... ... ... became the SWATCH GROUP, which now manufactures OMEGA and other brands such as Blancpain, SWATCH, and Breguet. impressum: *********************************************************************** © C.HAMANN http://public.BHT-Berlin.de/hamann 08/19/11 |
