In addition to usual problems like rust, dents, cracks, broken or missing springs, clogged and bent levers, etc., the restoration of this »MODEL-1« was especially hard: Some tooth-wheels of the gear-unit in the body between coding and arithmetic unit (in the carrier) had broken teeth... |
But, luckily, there was a "donator": The tooth-wheels had the same size as the ones in the "NewerMod.1" which was destroyed in 2003 on its flight to Germany by "Airport-Security" in SanFrancisco or Paris Airports. In a difficult micro-manipulation procedure the broken tooth-wheels were replaced by the few good ones from the "NewerMod.1" gearing. For a broken tooth-wheel in the carrier there was no replacement - But... |
This problem was solved by combining 5 single teeth (taken from broken tooth-wheels, see sketch) to form the missing tooth with its 10s-carry-stud. These were glued together with 2-component-glue... A T T E N T I O N : When re-assembling the case, the 2 LOWER-FRONT-SCREWS (right & left) ARE S H O R T E R !!! ( not to touch the inner "Trip-Lever" ) |
The broken POWER CABLE could be fixed too: The unique (female) plug was cut, rewired with a new cable, and all set in a modified film box. Insulated with filled-in component-glue, the box-cap was placed finally... |
