HISTORICAL REMARKS: *********************************************************************** based on the book(*) of W.A.Beeching »Typewriter« (1974) In 1908 Kanekichi Yasui founded the company YASUI SEWING MACHINE CO. in Nagoya/Japan repairing sewing machines and producing spare parts. Later his sons took over the business and they made a "chain stitch" sewing machine (to make straw hats) in 1928 under the brand name »BROTHER« : All six brothers entered the business including the husbands of their four sisters. During WWII they manufactured aeroplane engines, and after WWII electrical goods for the Japanese market - including an electrical sewing machine. In 1961 they started to make typewriters and in 1966 work began in their new Mizuho typewriter plant. Later also knitting machines and electrical appliances came on the market. impressum: *********************************************************************** © C.HAMANN http://public.BHT-Berlin.de/hamann 09/28/08 |
