HISTORICAL REMARKS: ********************************************************************** based on the book of W.A.Beeching »Typewriter« (1974) The company was founded around 1870 from Bruno Naumann and Emil Seidel to produce sewing machines. In 1876 E.Seidel left, but the name »S&N« continued. Also bicycles ( under the name »GERMANIA« ) and from 1900 also typewriters under the name »IDEAL« were produced and sold very successfully worldwide. 1910 the 1st portable & foldable » ERIKA-1 « (named after Naumann's daughter) came on the market and became a big success too. Exports were sold under the name »GLORIA« and »BIJOU«. After WWII the company became a GDR-run business ( »SWD« = VEB Schreibmaschinenwerk Dresden ) and after 1980 part of »ROBOTRON«. In 1991 the production came to an end. impressum: ********************************************************************** © C.HAMANN http://public.BHT-Berlin.de/hamann 09/22/07 |
