HISTORICAL REMARKS: ********************************************************************* Christopher L. Sholes & Carlos Glidden developed the first practical typewriter and the patent was issued in 1868. They became aware of a problem when they tried to type fast: The keys jammed. Together with James Densmore they developed (by triel and error) the "QWERTY" key- board arrangement to separate the most commonly used caracters to avoid jamming ( and this layout is still in use today !!! ) The group gave their prototype to a maker of guns, REMINGTON & SONS of Ilion, New York. In 1874 with the slogan "Three times faster than writing!" REMINGTON marketed the first » Sholes & Glidden Type Writer « .
