NCR  313  DETAILS

S N A P - S H O T S  from the PROCESS of RESTORATION
****************************************************
The machine came jammed and dirty inside - BUT ...

After cleaning, lubricating, bending, tuning, ...
the NCR is now working!

A view of the cash register before reassembing ...

HOW TO FREE THE JAMMED GEARINGS ?

(A & B)  Loosen SCREWS A & B and shift axles left and right ...
(C)  Remove SCREW C and shift counter 1/4" to the left ...
... NOW REMOVE BOTH COUNTER UNITS !

RESTORATION...

(1)  ADDED WASHERS between the holders to give more space
to the 3 gear sectors ...
(2)  An ADDED SPRING gives more "gravity" to the left gear-sector
enabling it to be in the right START POSITION ...
(3)  A BROKEN SPRING could be replaced with one taken from a pen ...
(4)  KEY "35" was missing and had to be created ...

The final work was "COSMETICS" only - except ...

The LID COUNTER under the HOOD was locked
After BREAKING THE SEALS with a soldering gun and »SolderWick« ...

... it was found, that the magnesium(?)alloy gearing was worn out:
Some tooth-tips were broken away - BUT BE INVENTIVE!
(a) Filed & sanded away the pulverized surfaces
(b) With the aid of a soldering gun the tips were restored roughly
(c) With needle files the tips were shaped
(d) Then each NUMBER-WHEEL PAIR was tuned separately until fitting
(e) Application of »WhiteLithiumGrease« after assembling the gearings

...

Now have a look at the front picture with the HOOD OPEN ...
( The cleaned "Lid Counter" is replaced, and works now fine! )

The arrows refer to parts mentioned in the operator's manual:
