After hours of cleaning ...
Many screws were broken from former "repairs"
( Due to electrolytic reactions: Iron screws in brass bodies )
Windings had to be drilled - Some parts were not accessible
1st Problem: System locked, because LOOSE IN THE MAIN SETTING ...
... Filing the OVAL HOLES back in conic shape to fix it tight ...
... 2rd Problem: CYLINDER WRONG SYNCHRONIZED - AND! ...
... 3nd Problem: A MISSING PIN on the 10s-Carry/Reset lever ...
( Exchange not possible, because of locked screws in both units )
... Removed the residuals of the broken pin - Made a REPLACEMENT ...
... and fixed it with component glue ...
( THIS is the "Home-Status" of the cylinder )
4th Problem: Errors in 10s-Carry arithmetic. Found the reason:
The Carriage was loose, because of worn-out TRANSPORT HELIX ...
( Results = OK, when carriage pressed to the right )
... EXCHANGED the whole MODULE including its SHIFT BAR ...
... Results in new ERRORS BECAUSE OF WRONG TIMING due to "Hardware-Constrains"
D I S C O V E R Y : PARTS MAY NOT BE INTERCHANGEBLE !!!
( This is true also for symmetric parts from left to right or vis-versa !!! )
===>> Manufactured BEFORE "Industrial Revolution" <<===
Old modul with worn-out helix B A C K into the calculator ...
Solution: (1st) Shorten the left side of the Shift Bar 5/10th mm
(2nd) Washer on the right side of the Shift Bar
to PUSH THE CARRIAGE TO THE RIGHT SIDE ...
... and it worked !
After lots of "cosmetics" ( eg. fix the broken rivets of the lid ... )
This is the FINAL STATE before finished assembling the whole machine:
A BEAUTIFUL PIECE OF ENGINEERING - BROUGHT BACK TO LIFE !
