The Instant-Multiplication (& 10s-Carry) Module (= "1x1-KOERPER")
=================================================================
PICTURE shows the LEFT CRANK with the VERTICAL LIFT TO FACTOR 9
( with a hidden support )
The TOOTH-BARS represent the values 9 .. 1 - The INPUT-UNIT
put the TOOTH-WHEEL on this tooth-bar what represents its input
value. The movement of the tooth-bars will TURN the tooth-wheel.
This turn represents the input VALUE and is transfered into the
ARITHMETIC UNIT.
The MODULE consists of nine layers: The upper one represents the
products 9 .. 1 with factor 1 - the next lower layer the products
with factor 2 a.s.o. Because a product (e.g. 8 x 3 = 24 ) may
result in two digits, each layer ( factor > 1 ) has two "COMBS":
One for the "ONES"- and one for its "10s-CARRY"-REPRESENTATION.
The MODULE has to make MOVEMENTS IN F O U R COORDINATES ...
WITH THE LEFT CRANK:
--------------------
(1st) A VERTICAL LIFT setting the FACTOR = 1, or 2, ... or 9
in the hight, facing the tooth-bars with "10s-CARRY"-COMB.
< E X A M P L E : "MULTIPLICATION"; INPUT "8"; FACTOR "3" >
WITH O N E T U R N OF THE RIGHT CRANK:
--------------------------------------------
(2nd) HORIZONTAL SHIFT ( w. first HALF-TURN of the right crank )
pushing the tooth-bars FORWARD ( w. activated arithmetic )
as far as the "10s-CARRY"-COMB TOOTH-LENGHT
( the "ONES"-COMB fits in between the tooth-bars ! )
and BACKWARD ( with disabled arithmetic unit ) let the
tooth-bars moving back (spring forced) to its base-state.
< THE ARITHMETIC UNIT DISPLAYS "2" AND MAKES A LEFT-SHIFT! >
(3rd) HORIZONTAL SHIFT TO THE SIDE to bring the "ONES"-COMB
in the position facing the tooth-bars
(4th) HORIZONTAL SHIFT ( w. second HALF-TURN of the right crank )
pushing the tooth-bars FORWARD ( w. activated arithmetic )
as far as the "ONES"-COMB TOOTH-LENGHT
and BACKWARD ( with disabled arithmetic unit ) let the
tooth-bars moving back (spring forced) to its base-state.
< THE ARITHMETIC UNIT DISPLAYS "4" ; R E S U L T = "24" >
